Conclusions:
This supine CSI technique increases patient safety for administration of anaesthetics, while preserving treatment efficiency, for both paediatric and adult patients. The couch indexing system has allowed a more accurate monitoring of treatment set-up, as demonstrated by a decrease in post-planning shielding modifications. Supine positioning also facilitates the use of alternative distraction devices, such as portable video entertainment, and has reduced the requirement for anaesthetics in some patients. This technique is preferred for patient comfort, precise junction match and demonstrated reproducibility.
