About the Presenter:
My areas of interest are in radiation oncology and medical physics, in particular, in proton beam therapy. I received my education and university degrees in solid state physics (Diploma, M.S. equivalent in the U.S.) and medicine (summa cum laude) from German Universities. I was trained as a certified radiologist both in diagnostic and therapeutic radiology at German hospitals. I came to the United States as a fellow of the Deutsche Forschungs Gemeinschaft (German Research Society) to develop small-field radiation treatment techniques for pituitary adenomas with proton beam therapy at the world's first clinical Proton Treatment Center at Loma Linda University Medical Center (LLUMC). After my fellowship and obtaining a medical license in the U.S., I decided to stay at LLUMC and pursue an academic career in proton radiation medicine. I am now Assistant Professor in the Department of Radiation Medicine at LLUMC, where I do research in stereotactic treatment techniques and various other fields, teaching in radiobiology, and stereotactic proton treatments for patients with arteriovenous malformations and brain metastases.
